Tennessee Big Boy statue returned; College student recognized as Dr. Evil’s escape spaceship

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Big Boy is back home at Hal Lansky’s house in Memphis.

The smiling, hamburger-bearing plastic figure was stolen from Lansky’s back yard over the weekend.

It was found by University of Alabama student James Francis and a friend as they drove along a street early Sunday.

The two recognized it, not as the restaurant icon it was, but as the spaceship that Dr. Evil used for his escape in the movie “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.”

Francis - who is 19 - told The Commercial Appeal they were going to use it for a paintball target until they heard it had been stolen. They returned it Wednesday to Lansky, who handed them a $500 reward.

Lansky said the figure wasn’t damaged.
